Chosen Solution
Screen is dead and I think it might be the grafic-video card. I cannot see my desktop on an external monitor, but I can see my hard disk on another Mac when mine is pluged in through a fire wire cable. Is it really the grafic-video bloc-card or the screen it self that is dead? Can you help me with the diagnosis and can I repair it myself? Thank You Richard Gravel Montreal, Canada rivel08@hotmail.com
Since you can’t see video on an external monitor I fear you have the dreaded logic board video chip problem. You can find out all about it by googling iBook video including what some have done to repair their boards. I think however the best solution is either a pofessional repair or replacement of the logic board. iFixit sells boards for most iBooks. And yes you can replace the board yourself but I would caution you to read the instructions carefully twice before starting as there are a couple places you can do great damage. Good luck. Ralph
