I have an American style fridge freezer, the display is working but both the fridge and freezer are not getting cold! Any ideas ?
Hi @mattywalky , What is the make and model number of the refrigerator? Can you hear if the compressor motor is running? If the compressor is not running then it may be an electrical problem and hopefully not a compressor problem If the compressor is running can you hear if the evaporator fan inside the freezer compartment (located behind a panel at the back of the compartment) is running? The fan will stop when a door (either door) is opened and will start again when the doors are shut, so you may have to place an ear close to the cabinet to hear it. Do not confuse this fan with the condenser fan which is outside the compartments near the compressor and can operate whether the doors are open or not and can run even if the compressor is not operating. If the compressor is running and the evaporator fan is operating, check that the condenser coils are clean and clear of any dust. Also check for any oil residues on the condenser coils or on/below the compressor. There is a special oil mixed in with the refrigerant in the sealed system, to lubricate the compressor. If there is a leak in the sealed system then the refrigerant will escape to the air undetected but the oil may leave a trace. If there is a leak in the sealed system, then depending on your location, you may need to contact a licensed repairer due to the environmental regulations regarding the handling of refrigerant gases. The repairer will have the necessary equipment to test the high/low pressures in the sealed system which will indicate what and where the problem may be. If the compressor is running and the evaporator fan is not running, then it may be a defrost problem or a fan problem. More information is needed to help you further
