My Panasonic blue-ray DVD player plays but there’s only noise and we can’t hear any dialogues or music.

Check your DVD player’s audio settings by hitting “SETUP” on the remote and navigating to the “AUDIO” menu. If it is set to “BITSTREAM”, change it to “PCM”.
