The newer (2018/2019) Tecra X-40e is much thinner than previous versions of this model. It’s amazing how much can be packed into this short case. My question is, how do you get to the SSD? I’ve removed the back and it is not there, so I assume it’s under the keyboard (access from the top). However, the keyboard seem tightly dropped into an indentation making it very difficult to pry out (assuming that’s how it comes out). Any suggestions on how to get to the SSD in this Tecra model without risking damage to the case? I am unable to find any formal documentation illustrating the SSD location or instructions on removal.

After contacting Toshiba (Dynabook) and realizing that their Support, although very nice people, are technically worthless. I also contacted a local authorized Toshiba repair center and asked how the SSD was removed from these newer model X40’s and to my surprise, I was told that even authorized dealers are not provided with Service Manuals for “some” Toshiba models. They suggested that the SSD likely was under the keyboard. Long story short, the SSD is not under the keyboard. It is mounted to the back of the Main board. I am adding this information in hope that it will be helpful to others in the future, given Toshiba’s lack of assistance and published documentation.

The SSD is on the back side of the motherboard. If you want to replace/upgrade it then you will have to remove the motherboard. Also the keyboard is GLUED in place. I repeat, the keyboard is GLUED in place. Any hopes that you had of putting in another keyboard should yours go out is out is non-existent. These laptops are absolute garbage for repair and upgradability.
